We will be holding our 2010/2011 season introduction meeting for the Parents of the Surfers at Round Table at 6pm on Tuesday September 21st.

At the meeting we will cover:

• Introduction of the Coaches
• The Core Scholastic Surf League: what to expect and hopefully the competition schedule.
• The CSSL paperwork & sign up of those who wish to compete at either the High School or Middel School level...
• The paperwork for those who wish to just be Surf Club Members (for those who haven't completed it already)
• Collection of registration fees for the team ($50) and/or the club ($10)
• How you can help if you are so inclined

As part of the CSSL league partipants are required to perform some community service. Please join the HMB Surf Club and other San Mateo County Parks volunteers... by volunteering and helping to cleanup the coast. We will be meeting at the Half Moon Bay Kayak Co. at 9am and working our way down the beach to clean up Surfers Beach. A spot we all have an interest in keeping clean.

Practice will start at 9am at Roosevelt Beach - we will have Team Pictures for both High School & Middle School Teams/Clubs. The Team pictures will be taken with wetsuits on - so please be on time and suited up by 9am. If you are a Team Surfer and have a sponsorship deal thru one of the local Shops/Shapers please bring your sponsor's board that you ride - as well. We need all surfers to represent with the Board they ride in competitions in the picture.

Please be on time as the faster we move thru the picture taking portion the sooner we will be in the water, they say Sunday is supposed to be warmer than today!

Once the Pictures are taken we will split the groups and have practice

There will be a CPR/AED/First Aid course on Saturday, October 30th at the HMB Yacht Club, in their big new building.
Below is the class description.

It will be from around 9-5, give or take.  I will get final times in the next day or so--save the date. 
I have my minimum of five already, so the class will go.

We could have a BBQ lunch, too if someone would like to help me organize it. Morning and afternoon snacks would be nice too....

The San Mateo Harbor District is teaming up with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to study potential solutions for the erosion issues that threaten the long-term existence of Surfer’s Beach at the harbor jetty and accelerate erosion rates further downcoast. Come out to learn more about this important issue and have your say about what potential solutions should be considered to solve the problems while addressing other issues such as beach preservation and beach access.

Folks-

The Middle School Contest location will be at Dunes beach. We would ask that all team members arrive are at the beach by 6:30am - As we are the home team and will be surfing against one of the Santa Cruz Teams first thing at 7am... If you are one of the 6 boys surfing in the short board team on team event at 7am please be suited up and at the beach at 6:30am.

As a side note before driving to the beach please check email before driving to the beach - on the off chance there is a venue change...If it is changed you will receive an email before 6am from Rocky as to the location.

Surfing in the SurfRider Contest Series:

(1) For HMBSC and CSSL surfers that only want to compete in 1 division only:

• First contest $60
• Free entry into the next 2 contests
• Per contest cost = $20

 
(2) For HMBSC and CSSL surfers that want to surf in 2 different divisions:

• First contest $60
• Free entry into their choice of the next 2 contests
• Per contest cost = $30

Online registration (go here to register Surf Contest: Rise Above Plastics Series Event 1)  for the 11/21 contest will close around 10 PM on Saturday evening. Signup at the event may be limited since we have to put together the heat schedule the night before so it is advised that contestants sign up in advance online. The online signup form allows selection of a primary division and an additional (optional) division. The additional division is allocated with priority based on signup date/time.

If yo want your surfer to be able to compete in the series please sign them up today!

Surf Contest: Rise Above Plastics Series Event 1

All MS & HS surfers are encouraged to compete and support the local SurfRider Chapter.

This event will also have a BodyBoard division... So if you are with the club you should come out and compete with your fellow SM County SurfRider BodyBoarders.

The CSSL is having our High School Team Rider Tee-Shirts printed later this week. Please email me with your requested size. I need sizes for all our team riders and coaches!

It looks like we have a good sized clean swell on tap for tomorrow. Super swampy high tide and possible closeout conditions may be a bit challenging for tomorow's practice. Rocky and I will scout out everything from Kelly to the Jetty and make the determination of location by 6:30 AM.

I hope you have all had a chance to rest after this weekend’s NSSA Championships. Congratulations to Thomas, Hunter, Sasha and Helen!! All of you surfers did an outstanding job at Huntington and we are all very proud of you!
